Roland

SH-101

The Roland SH-101 is a monophonic analog synthesizer produced by Roland between 1982 and 1986. Despite its initial commercial challenges, it has become a staple in electronic music, particularly within genres like house and techno. The SH-101 features a single voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with selectable waveforms, including pulse, sawtooth, and sub-oscillator, which can be mixed to create a wide range of sounds. It also includes a resonant low-pass filter, an envelope generator, and a low-frequency oscillator (LFO) for modulation. Notably, the SH-101 is equipped with a 100-step sequencer and an arpeggiator, allowing for complex rhythmic patterns and sequences. Its compact design, portability, and affordability made it popular among musicians and producers, and it remains a beloved instrument in the synthesizer community.
